Statement

My work has always been linked to the playful sense.  Since I was little I built my own toys. In my childhood, materials's scarcity meant a personal satisfaction for invention.  Back then, an obsession began to grow in me for creating structures inspired in original objects and I started to create my own artefacts with the only meaning of entertaining and childish joy.

 

During my first years of artistic career, I was fascinated with ceramic and sculpture and I used those personal experiences in my work as a conceptual and formal procedure, but in a more conscious way.

 

In the beginning of my creation process I was interested about my surrounding worlds from a playful and self-referential consideration, and now I have achieved to direct my concerns into sharper and more complex reflections about contexts; such as the society I live in and its power mechanism.

 

Historical memory also occupies an important space of analysis in all my works.  My country´s collective imagination has managed to leave a great series of images that not only come from politics, mediatic society, etc, but also from the memory and nostalgia.  The “constructos” established by power have raisen pillars above heroes who carry on their backs stories told, of course and like always, by the winners. It´s obvious the enormous wirthdrawal coming from my generation to make reliable and tangible commitments. The destruction of the myths surrounding the leader and his mass.

 

Reunification and relocation justify the essential ideas of my work, like the use of memory and the concept of recycling and I was interested in recycling in the same story, beyond the artistic practice.  The sculptures and installations are made taking as reference power symbols with an unquestionable historic dimension. In these projects I worked with history as reference and with characters coming from the media.   The chosen objects also start not only from its significative connotation, but from its aestheticity, due to a strong sculptural character as one of its main elements.  From there my interest of selecting mechanisms with an imponent visuality which contain a conductive thread: weapons, robots, machines, etc. used by the power structures.
